Prompted Writing Sessions

A protected bubble of writing time where you can play, focus, and just ... write!
Crumpled notebook paper with whimsical paper cut-out decorations and the text: Do you ever struggle to take time to write? forget to play, to be silly and messy, to have fun? feel stuck, bogged down, or overwhelmed about your writing? Welcome to a no-pressure, low-stakes, writing-forward, inspiration-rich space!
This online prompted writing group is great for writers who crave a bit of structure with built-in flexibility, who struggle to give themselves time to write, who forget to play and be silly and messy, and/or who feel stuck, bogged down, overwhelmed, or way too in their own heads. Come play with us in a no-pressure, low-stakes, writing-forward, inspiration-rich space!

Dates and time:
  • 19 March – 23 April 2026
  • Thursdays, 11:00 a.m. – noon Central time
  • Registration deadline: 9 March 2026

Cost:
  • $100 per writer per 6-week series
  • This group will run if we meet an enrollment minimum of 6 (maximum 12). After meeting minimum enrollment, a limited number of spots at a 50% discount will open up for writers who cannot afford to participate at the regular rate. Please contact me if you’re interested in that possibility, or if you need a payment plan.
  • Payment due 12 March. I’ll send registrants an invoice once we’ve met the enrollment minimum.

what to expect

Six 1-hour writing sessions hosted on Zoom (with another 6-week series beginning after a 2-week break, enrollment permitting).

Prompts will tend toward a fiction flavor, but poets and others are welcome too! This is a genre-fiction-friendly and romance-enthusiastic space, and one that strives to welcome writers’ whole selves in a spirit of inclusive community.

A typical session will include:
  • a brief initial freewrite to help us get grounded in the moment
  • three creative writing prompts to inspire, delight, and challenge your writer brain during timed writing sprints
  • a brief sensory and movement break around halfway through
  • a final brief freewrite to cap off the hour
We may sometimes chat a bit about how the writing is feeling, and Zoom's text chat space will be open for sharing and questions, but this is primarily an hour for writing. (Sweet, sweet writing time!)

As a participant, you will be welcome to:
  • be on or off camera as you please
  • use the prompts that work for you and modify, reinterpret, or ignore any that don’t
  • play around in prose fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or whatever you want
  • mute me and stay in the session if you’re in flow and don’t want to hear new prompts (which will also be onscreen if and when you want to dip back in)
  • pop in late, leave early, or step away for a bit in the middle if your life (or day) demands it. Just stay on mute to avoid disrupting others' focus (you can always say hi or bye in the chat!).

Alternatively, feel free to use some or all of our sessions as structured writing sprints, disregarding the prompts and simply writing forward in your current project.

This is a way to hold space for your writing practice, because you and your creative life matter. Let’s write together!
