Language Tune-ups for Projects up to 4,000 Words

Need help with a short document?
Sometimes we need quick, expert feedback on a short document that matters to us personally or professionally. Perhaps you’re in that spot with:
  • a knitting pattern (or a collection of knitting patterns)
  • website copy
  • cover copy
  • your résumé or CV
  • a proposal
  • a piece of short fiction
  • a rulebook for a game you’ve created
  • a statement of purpose for a grad school application
  • a short article or blog post
  • or something else entirely!
This service includes a combination of copyedit and proofread that meets the document where it is. I will correct errors, query where I’m not sure, and point out any larger issues I notice as appropriate.

If the document contains many errors or could use revisions at the level of content or structure, and is therefore not ready for proofread, I will triage. I’ll correct or flag straightforward errors and patterns of errors (missing periods, misspelled words, etc.), comment on larger issues, and suggest next steps, without attempting to get the text to a completely clean and ready-to-go state.

Because we’re all trying to be kind and get it right, I always query, explain, and propose solutions if I encounter language or storytelling that strikes me as potentially harmful to readers because of connections to ableism, racism, fat phobia, classism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, or any other cultural yuckiness.

pricing

Projects up to 2,000 words in length: $40.

Projects up to 4,000 words in length: $40 for the first 2,000 words plus $0.015 per word after that.

nuts & bolts

I can typically turn around a project of this length and scope in a single full business day, once we’ve agreed to work together. Let me know how quickly you need feedback when you get in touch.

I primarily work in American (US) English and am well-versed in The Chicago Manual of Style and loads of other relevant resources.

I’ll use the Track Changes and Comments features for a Word or Pages document or mark up PDFs in Adobe, according to your needs.

What's next?

If you think this sounds promising, let’s communicate! The first step in my process is to get to know you and your needs and, of course, answer any questions you may have. Then, if we’ve determined it’s a good fit, we’ll sign an agreement and get to work!
